Support Diversity Filters 101: Everything You Need to Know
ByDiversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) are the cornerstones of our values, and in order to make it easier for pros from underrepresented communities and couples who want to support diverse pros to find each other, The Knot and WeddingWire introduced Diversity Filters into our functionality. By opting in to one of the Support Diversity Filters on The Knot and WeddingWire, businesses owned by pros in underrepresented communities can be more easily discovered by couples looking to support and hire them.
“Today’s couples are among the most diverse, multi-cultural generation ever and they’re passionate about allyship and representation. With the help of our Support Diversity filters, they can more easily discover and connect with underrepresented pros during their wedding planning journey. For pros who identify with an underrepresented group, these filters are an opportunity to highlight themselves and be found by couples searching.” – Christine Brown, Vice President of Product, The Knot Worldwide
And that’s not all they do. We’ve gotten a few questions about the Support Diversity Filters, so we’ve collected the most commonly asked ones to answer here. If you’re curious about how to use the Diversity Filters on The Knot and WeddingWire, keep reading!
How to use the Support Diversity Filters on The Knot and WeddingWire
Q: Why is it important to have these filters in the first place?
A: The wedding industry is large and hugely diverse, but like in many spaces, it can look and feel homogenous in a lot of different aspects. And this image can make it harder for wedding business owners who have a different background and vision than what is typically represented to break through the noise. The Support Diversity Filters are a way to create a much more equitable and safe environment for pros from underrepresented communities so they can book more clients and grow their businesses.
Q: What filters are available to pros?
A: Pros can identify their businesses as Asian-owned, Black-owned, Hispanic or Latinx-owned, LGBTQ+-owned, Native American-owned, Pacific Islander-owned, Woman-owned and/or Veteran-owned.
Q: How can I opt-in to using the filters?
A: It’s easy–simply log into your account(s) and access your vendor portal. Once there, go to the Products & Services (The Knot) and/or Business Information (WeddingWire) sections. Then, on the opt-in form, select the communities you identify with and submit your response.
Q: Will couples still be able to see my business if they don’t use the Support Diversity Filters?
A: Yes! The default views and settings on both The Knot and WeddingWire are still the same, so couples will be able to find you with or without using the filters.
Q: Can I use the Support Diversity Filters to show that I’m an ally, even if I’m not a part of the recognized communities?
A: We ask that you don’t. While being a visible ally is wonderful, it’s important that the Support Diversity Filters are only used by pros who identify as a member of an underrepresented community. If you want to show your support for the diverse pros in your network, be sure to leave endorsements for them on their Storefronts and shout them out to your couples!
